Roney Giah wins Honorable Mention in The John Lennon Songwriting Contest

Roney Giah has consolidated his career abroad through contracts for the marketing of music and international awards for his compositions. São Paulo, 15 de dezembro de 2008 – Considerado um dos mais renomados festivais internacionais de composição, o The John Lennon Songwriting Contest destacou com Menção Honrosa, na categoria World, o trabalho do compositor, cantor e guitarrista Roney Giah. Com a curadoria de Yoko Ono, o júri – formado pelos músicos Carlos Santana, Wyclef Jean, Fergie (Black Eyed Peas), John Legend, Al Jareau, Bob Weir (Grateful Dead), Lamont Dozier e Natasha Bedingfield – concedeu Menção Honrosa a Giah pela música Amar com E, que integra o CD “Mais dias na Terra”. Criado há 10 anos, o The John Lennon Songwriting Contest (www.jlsc.com) conta com 12 categorias musicais: Rock, Country, Jazz, Pop, World, Rhythm & Blues, Hip Hop, Gospel/Inspirational, Latin, Electronic, Folk e Children´s. Entre os critérios avaliados pelos jurados estão originalidade, melodia, composição e letra. Roney Giah é o único brasileiro a contar com a distinção na edição 2008 do The John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

Formado pelo Musicians Institute of Technology, em Los Angeles (EUA), em 1994, Roney Giah estudou com Pat Metheny, Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, Joe Diorio, Joe Pass, Stanley Jordan, Jenifer Batten (guitarrista de Michael Jackson) e Cat Gray (tecladista do Prince). De volta ao Brasil, o cantor e guitarrista lançou seu primeiro CD – Semente –, indicado ao Prêmio Sharp 1998. No mesmo ano, concorreu ao Prêmio Visa (edição instrumental) e conquistou o segundo lugar no Festival Berklee/Souza Lima, em São Paulo. Teve também sua música Argila relançada no disco Pearl Brazilian Team 3, em uma coletânea de artistas brasileiros. Gravado nos estúdios Bebop, Groove e Paarmann, em São Paulo, o segundo CD Mais dias na Terra foi pré-selecionado na edição 2006 do Latin Grammy e pelo Prêmio TIM de Música. Em shows e apresentações Roney Giah já dividiu o palco com Sandra de Sá, Claudio Zoli, Milton Guedes, Xis, Bocato, Rappin Hood, Roberto Sion e Mané Silveira.

A musicalidade inovadora do brasileiro Roney Giah tem conquistado o mercado internacional. Em 2008, o músico foi convidado a participar da trilha sonora do filme norte-americano “No pain, no gain” e assinou um contrato com a gravadora inglesa ASTRANOVA Records para o lançamento da coletânea Yesterday´s tomorrow. Para a divulgação, a gravadora produziu podcasts shows que foram disponibilizados em 107 países. Yesterday’s tomorrow, que é comercializado pelo I Tunes, reúne sete faixas do cd Semente (1998), seis faixas do cd Mais dias na Terra (2006) e uma faixa do inédito Na mira do coice, além de uma faixa bônus produzida com exclusividade para a ASTRANOVA.
